Synopsis of Passage to Manhood:
Where does a boy learn to become a man?
When does he know he is one?
What is the journey he must take to become a real man?
Why is this important? Society has its own way to initiate boys and define men. The problem is that society does not have a clear definition of manhood; it is a faulty one at best. Without a clear path, what eventually develops is confusion and a loss of direction. We cannot put our trust in society to give our sons their initiation into manhood.
As fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and any male who has influence over 10-20 year old young men, let us take it upon ourselves to bring our sons into manhood. The truth is, if we don’t intentionally initiate our sons, they will look for it elsewhere, with less than desirable outcomes.
But how do we intentionally initiate our sons if we were never initiated ourselves? Can it be for every man? Passage to Manhood Workshops
A Passage to Manhood workshop is a three-hour teaching session that gives a father, step-father, grandfather, or other male mentor the tools needed to put together a rite of passage, or vision-quest for his son. Through the stories of other men who have initiated their sons, movie clips, and planning time, men come away with a framework on how to initiate the young man in their lives into a healthy masculinity. The typical schedule for the workshop is done on a Saturday morning from 7:30am-11am. A church brings in the GTD team and serves breakfast to the attendees from 7:30-8am, and the workshop runs from 8-11am. Cost is $29 and includes breakfast, Passage to Manhood guidebook, and teaching.
